As part of the 10th anniversary of ICWC we wanted to do something different rather than a gala dinner or souvenir which is typically the run of the mill stuff. ICWC felt that we should support inmates in prisons involved in traffic and site accidents where there has been a loss of life and payment of the mandatory ‘Diya” money of AED: 200,000 per life lost has been ordered by the Court. After due diligence, we have identified 13 cases that deserve our support. These chosen 13 have completed jail term, but continue to be imprisoned due to nonpayment of the Diya money.

ICWC has so far successfully handled 25 cases. Some by paying the full amount and many with lower amounts after negotiation with the legal heirs and reaching an out of court settlement. A lot obviously depends on the willingness of the victim’s family and how well we can negotiate. Worst case scenario we may need 2.6 million, but we are fairly confident that we can reach an amicable settlement for lower amounts in most cases.

May we take this opportunity to appeal to Indian Businessmen to support a worthy humanitarian cause as part of “Corporate Social Responsibility “the popular buzz word these days The solace and mental satisfaction derived out of solving these types of issues is something unique and can only be experienced.
